What we did...

Tuesday 10th February...
Today we searched for a location where we could film our second scene, since we couldn't film the first scene yet because it need to be in a tent on a field somewhere and we didn't have a tent. We wanted the surroundings to be either a school driveway or a street leading to a school. We thought it would be the best idea to use the sixth form school driveway, since no one from lower school would be walking up and down in their uniform. We also looked for a location to film our forth scene, where Edwardo gets confronted by bullies. We wanted the school to look old since Edwardo was talking about how rubbish his school is. We found a spot upstairs in Chesterfield house, down the corridor. There was enough room to hide the camera and to act. After hunting for a location we decided to start filming. We filmed our second scene where two girls are laughing at Edwardo and he has a football thrown at his face. Since it has been snowing we decided to use a snowball instead of a football. We filmed Edwardo and the two girls played by me and Laura, (Sam was absent from school) walking up the drive and following the script. After we had done this a number of time we paused it, then moved the camera to a mid-shot for the snowball throw. The first throw was by Laura which hit Edwardo in the shoulder. The second shot was by me, which hit him directly in the face, followed by a fall. We had completed our filmed for today.

Wednesday 11th February...
Today we edited what we filmed on the 10th February. We deleted the outtakes that we didn't like or that wasn't clear. We had a problem were you couldn't hear what me and Laura were saying, but this problem was solved since it was the volume of which the camera was set at, was why we couldn't hear ourselves. We deleted the extra walking up the drive scene, edited the scene were me and Laura have to run back to the camera to switch it off, and also deleted Laura's snowball shot.

Half Term...

Shooting Scene One and Three...
Wednesday 25th February...
(Originally we was going to use a tent for the opening scene, we found the perfect spot to film our scene with nothing out of the ordinary in the background and enough space to have everything we wanted, so there would be no continuity errors or cars driving around. The only problem is that we did not have access to a small enough tent for the location that we wanted to film and we could not gain access to a tent in time to stick to the shooting schedule. so we decided to have him sat inside a bush, instead of a tent.)
Today we filmed the first scene of our opening. We looked for the location of a bush and where there wouldn't be anyone wondering around how would walk into the shot. Around the back of the School Houses in Lower school, there's a big open area, which had a tree and a bush, which was perfect for our shot. Matt sat in the middle of the bush area playing Edwardo and we just filmed him normally writing in his notebook. I started playing around with the zoom button and thought it would be a good idea to start with a close up and slowly zoom out. The idea was a success as it worked with the script of Edwardo describing the worst day of his life and came across as effective. We did not speak any dialogue in this scene because we had planned a voice over to be edited into the scene.
We had originally planned for this scene to be filmed on Titchfield Park near Kirkby Cross inside a tent. However the problem was none of us had a tent and I often wondered how we would have the room to film inside a tent with Edwardo inside it. Also this scene was supposed to be at night and we filmed it in the morning. The scene turned out really well, with the added zoom out and Sam thought it would be funny the throw sticks at Edwardo. So this added to the comical value of our opening. The scene originally was quiet boring and depressing with the voice over. So the stick throwing was a good idea to fit in with the genre of Teen Comedy.

After filming Scene one, we was happy and ready to move onto filming scene three, since we already had scene two. We needed some extras, so we asked our fellow class mates, Fraser, Nick and Tom a.k.a Foxy, if they would like to be bullies and if one of them was willing to get hit in the face by me, for my character in this scene was Hannah, Edwardo's friend. Tom volunteered himself to get hit. We changed location from lower school to the location of the corridor outside our classroom, because it was perfect, there were lots of classroom and it was long enough to get all the shots in that we wanted. We used two cameras for this scene, Camera one filmed the bullies walking out the classroom and walking towards Edwardo and also a shot of the bullies on the floor. Camera Two filmed the bullies walking up to Edwardo from Edwardo's side of the corridor and the action shot of Hannah (played by me) hitting Arnie (played by Foxy). We filmed this scene a number of times since we wasn't sure how to film it, whether to pause it and get the punch at a different angle or whether to do it all together. We did it altogether but it took three times to get it right. We also filmed Mrs Bigg (played by Mr Gibb) scene were Hannah gets caught punching Arnie. This scene was one of the funniest scenes since at one point in filming all of the bullies fell over instead of just the one, this was an accident. One of the bullies lost their balance and so all three of them fell over. The out takes from this scene will soon be available on our groups blogs, we are currently having trouble uploading some clips.

Thursday 26th February...
Today, we uploaded everything we filmed on the 25th February and started editing. We watched everything through and started putting everything into place. We wasn't entirely happy with the Mrs Bigg scene, as there was a few problems in the background. We also wanted the scene in slow motion when Mrs Bigg comes round the corner and we couldn't edit it in otherwise the Hannah in the shot would have been in slow motion too and we only wanted Mrs Bigg in slow motion. So we re-filmed it, we asked Mr Gibb to do it slowly and he did so we now have the results we wanted. The problem we had with this scene is that Mr Gibb had a hair cut and you could tell the length had gone, so we just put it into the voice over and made a joke of the growing and disappearing hair.

Tuesday 3rd March...
We spent the lesson editing what we recorded last week. Putting everything into order, cutting out the scene we didn't want and putting in fades.

Wednesday 4th March...
We continued with the editing and discovered that our opening was now 1 minute 28 seconds and it needed to be 2 minutes minimum. So we decided to make a new scene were we could include Sam too because he had been off school. We decided to show Edwardo's everyday life and why he is such a loser. Also in our editing process of today, we discovered that Foxy says a bad word and we wasn't aloud to have such violent language in our opening, so we needed to edit over this and we did this by placing Edwardo's voice over the swear word.

Thursday 5th March...
We did the filming of the new scenes today. We had a scene where we had some extras who had a free lesson at the time. Edwardo is walking up the stairs and we had three girls at the top of the stairs who start calling him a loser as he walks past them. Then the next scene was three more girls walk past him down a long corridor bumping into him and calling him a loser once again. We are not going to use the second part of the scene because looking at our opening now, we have way to much footage that is way over 2 minutes. We moved to a new corridor and recorded the scene that included Sam as the bully. Sam steals Edwardo's coat and bag but we have portrayed it in a comical way. I noticed at this point that we didn't have many techniques involved in the film so far, so I saw the opportunity to put in some over the shoulder shots, close ups and long shots.

Tuesday 10th March...
Today was also another editing day, where we put all the scenes onto the computer, putting it in order and deleting scenes that we didn't want or couldn't use. Our opening came to 2 minutes 19 seconds after everything was cut and put into order. All we needed was music but we couldn't use any music because of the copyright laws and because this film will be posted on the Internet we had to be even more careful with what we use. We used a website where we could use the music it offered on http://www.freeplaymusic.com/.

Wednesday 11th March...
Today we recorded the voice over. We had to make some editing to the script since we had some new scenes, so we added in the voice overs of "You see nobody really likes me" which fitted in where the girls at the top of the stairs was calling him loser. Also we added in, "I don't see the point on going to lesson, nobody ever listens to me anyway", this went into the scene four where Edwardo is stood in the corridor before the bullies come out the classroom and last but not least "oh crap" goes to where the bullies are just about to confront Edwardo. We plugged in the voice recorder and edited the voice overs over the film and scenes where they needed to be. We also chose some music to go right at the beginning with the titles.

Thursday 12th March...
Today, was another day of editing. I was given the task of choosing some dramatic music for when Mr Gibb came round the corner. We all agreed on the music piece I chose, then Laura our editing expert, put the pieces together by placing in the music and putting in all the fades where they were needed.
